Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Adnan Alonto has commended Saripada Balindong Daud, a Filipino worker who saved a disabled Arab trapped inside his car during the floods that engulfed Jeddah.

In a simple ceremony held in Jeddah, Daud was awarded a certificate of commendation for his act of heroism, which “brought greater honor to Filipinos and the Philippines.”

On Nov. 21, a polio-stricken elderly man was stranded in his car in the middle of rushing rainwater, while a large crowd, including two Saudi Arabian Civil Defense staff, simply stood watching.

Daud, unmindful of his own personal welfare, waded through the flood and pulled the elderly man to safety. His heroic act was videotaped and quickly went viral on social media.
