Airport employees and law enforcers are prohibited from greeting air travelers “Merry Christmas” and “Happy New Year” this holiday season.

The ban covers all employees of Manila International Airport Authority, Aviation Security Group, as well as Immigration and Customs personnel.

A memorandum issued during the time of then MIAA general manager Alfonso Cusi directed employees to refrain from greeting passengers, as this was observed to be their way of indirectly asking for tips.

MIAA media affairs division Jesus Martinez said Cusi’s memo is being circulated yearly at the four terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to remind employees of the policy against soliciting money from passengers.
