The Supreme Court will require a Metropolitan Trial Court judge in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija to explain reports that he subpoenaed to appear in his court the traffic enforcers who issued him an illegal parking ticket and confiscated his license plate in Baguio City last month.

SC spokesperson Brian Keith Hosaka said the Court would hear the side of Cabanatuan MTC Branch III Nelson Lago why he summoned traffic enforcers from Baguio City for reportedly issuing him with an illegal parking ticket and for taking his license plate.

“I was told by SC Court Administrator Midas P. Marquez that he has requested Deputy Court Administrator for Luzon, Raul B. Villanueva, to ask Judge Nelson Lago to comment on these news reports,” Hosaka stressed.

Reports showed that Lago ordered the traffic enforcers to appear before his sala on Nov. 29 and give an explanation on why they should not be cited for indirect contempt.

Lago was reportedly attending a security seminar in Baguio City when, on Oct. 25, he parked his car briefly at a market along Kayang Street when the traffic enforcers removed his licensed plate.

In his subpoena order, the Judge said settling the fine and recovering his licensed plate resulted in the delay in the scheduled hearings and administration of justice.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong reportedly said he also hoped that he would be issued with a subpoena so he could explain the city’s traffic ordinance.
