The National Capital Region Police Office announced on Friday that it was recruiting 300 new police officers to strengthen the Metro Manila police force.

This was disclosed by Metro Manila police director Guillermo Eleazar during the announcement of top 450 applicants for this year’s Patrolman Recruitment Program.

“It is only this time that I have seen so many applicants who wants to join the PNP, unfortunately, the accommodation will be limited since we only have 300 quota of police recruits for this semester henceforth the existing number of applicants will certainly downgrade,” said Eleazar during the ceremonial announcement of candidates.

He said that the 450 applicants “shall undergo bar coding, issuance of the identification card, identification of Body Mass Index, agility test and neuro-psychiatric examination as part of the recruitment and selection process.”

After this process, the 300 most competent and fit police recruits will undergo the Patrolman and Patrolwomen mandatory training, Eleazar said.

In his speech, Eleazar said that he aspires to eliminate the “palakasan” system in the course of the recruitment and selection as part and parcel of his transformational leadership.

“Walang padri-padrino, walang palakasan, only those who are the best and most deserving among the qualified applicants will be processed,” he said.

In his intent to fully cleanse the organization from abusive uniformed personnel, the NCRPO chief assured the public that this year’s recruitment fulfills the marching order of President Rodrigo Duterte to condemn erring policemen.

“We will replace misfits, scalawags and erring cops with highly qualified, competent and dedicated applicants who will serve and protect not only the NCRPO but the whole PNP as well to improve the quality of the police force,” he said.

After the examination, “2,987 applicants got a score ranging from 75 percent to 84 percent whereas 1,055 applicants scored scaling from 85 percent to 94 percent, thereby coming up with 450 passers.”

The NCRPO identified the top 10 applicants and their college courses:

1.Kevin Gessler Paris, Electronics and Communication Engineering; 2. Carl Mantes, Criminology; 3. Jerson Santos, Accountancy; 4.
