No record of ASF in PH – experts

There is still no recorded case of African Swine Fever in the Philippines amid the country’s importation ban on 15 countries affected by ASF including Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Moldova, South Africa, Zambia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Belgium, Latvia, Poland, Romania, China, Mongolia and Vietnam.

This was revealed during yesterday’s Senate committee on agriculture and food hearing to inquire into the state in the country of ASF and the measures being done by the government to ensure the protection of local hog raisers.

Dr. Ronnie Domingo of the DA-Bureau of Animal Industry told the Senate panel presided by Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri that they had installed foot bath and dinefecriin in the country’s airport.

He said they will also add 40 sniffing dogs and additional 100 personnel to check on pork importation.

He also said pork coming from 15 countries, including China and Russia, which are affected by swine flu, were being confiscafed.

There was also a recommendatiin from the DA to impose a P50,000 fine to those who would attempt to smuggle pork into the country.
