Operatives from the Bureau of Customs and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency seized more than P90 million worth of shabu shipment found inside three mufflers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

In a statement, the BOC said the illegal drug shipment weighed 13.1 kilograms and came from West Covina, California, USA, which were declared as car parts.

Customs examiners inspected the shipment after the X-Ray division found suspicious objects inside the mufflers, prompting government authorities to open the package where they discovered the illegal drugs.

Customs officials said that the shipment was declared as three mufflers valued at US$500 or P25,000.

Inside the mufflers were 26 packages of shabu, which arrived last month at the DHL Warehouse under airway bill no.  4223900144.

The PDEA will conduct an investigation to find its owner and file appropriate charges against them.

“This recent apprehension clearly manifests the unwavering commitment of the BOC to guard the country’s border against attempts to smuggle in dangerous drugs and other anti-social goods, in addition to its revenue collection efforts,” the BOC said in a statement.

The Customs bureau assured the public that its officers are proactive, diligent and committed in protecting the Philippine borders, especially illegal drugs, and firearms.

To date, a total of 30 drug busts were recorded in the port in the past 10 months with an estimated street value of P363,774,292.76.

Late last year,  P15.4 million worth of shabu and marijuana smuggled at the Central Mail Exchange Center and a bonded warehouse were also intercepted by NAIA Customs agents.

The illegal drugs from Thailand, USA, Africa, and Pakistan were hidden in foot and calf massager, religious frame, letter, boxing gloves and baseball jersey, and clothes.
