Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board chairperson Martin Delgra III on Monday lauded Grab Philippines for “raising the bar for safety standards of the overall transport industry.”

At the launch of Grab’s Safer Everyday Tech Roadmap in Quezon City, Delgra said “all we want to see is a zero-accident and a zero-crime on the road. That is what I want to happen.”

He called on Grab to expand its services and deliver more innovations to be able to protect its passengers.

At a news conference, Grab country head Brian Cu assured their riders of safety through stricter security measures.

He said Grab had adopted measures aimed at changing user-safety habits, such as driver fatigue monitoring and telematics reports for drivers to learn their driving patterns and identifying how to drive more safely—to drive on long-term road behavior change and reduce the chance of incidents.

Officials of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Metro Manila Development Authority, and Philippine National Police’s Highway Patrol Group have backed Grab’s initiative to help the government to strengthen safety processes and standards for drug prevention, and accident and criminal response.

According to Grab’s marketing head Cindy Toh, passengers would be safer since Grab has rolled out a passenger validation and driver selfie authentication, and that passengers could send their relatives their real-time location.

She said they would be very strict to check the background of their drivers.
