3 cops dead, 3 others hurt as gunmen fire at Puno convoy

THREE police escorts were slain and three more were hurt when gunmen ambushed the convoy of Food and Drug Administration Director General Nela Charade-Puno in Lupi, Camarines Sur, on Thursday morning, according to GMA News in a report beamed nationwide.

Citing information from Bicol Police Regional Office, GMA News stringer Michael Biando said the incident happened at 9:10 am in Lupi’s Barangay Napolidan.

Puno was on her way to a gathering when her convoy was attacked by more or less 20 armed men.

Killed in the ambush were SPO1 Percival Rafael, PO3 Carlito Navarozza, and PO1 Ralph Jason Vida, while those hurt were identified as PO1 Jonathan Perillo, PO1 Rodolfo Gonzaga and PO1 Ruby Buena.

Those injured were brought to Bicol Medical Center in Naga City.

Puno, who was unhurt, canceled the event as a result of the incident.

Other policemen who were part of the security convoy retaliated and were able to drive the suspects away, according to GMA.

The suspects have not been identified.
