Solon slams Grab for abusive rates

A party-list lawmaker  on Sunday accused Grab Philippines of distorting the country’s laws and the lawful orders of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to justify its abusive fare rates while leaving their drivers-partners poor.

PUWERSA ng Bayaning Atleta Rep. Jericho Nograles criticized  Grab and its lawyers for citing Department Order 2015-011 issued on May 8, 2015  allowing transport network companies to set their own fare rates subject to LTFRB’s oversight while completely ignoring more updated orders and issuances.

He cited a Dec. 27, 2016 order of the LTFRB enumerating the allowed fare charges, of which Grab ignored “completely.”

“Obviously, a 2016 LTFRB order supersedes the 2015 order, and not the other way around but Grab keeps on harping about an old and outdated order to justify their illegal fare rates,” he said.

In the Dec. 27, 2016 order, the LTFRB instructed Grab to adopt an itemized fare structure —a base fare or minimum fare of P40 per kilometer charge of P10 to P14 depending on the vehicle used and “price surge” of up to twice the fare for the distance traveled.
