Armed Forces of the Philippines chief General Rey Guerrero will be named as administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority when he retires on April 24, according to President Rodrigo Duterte.

Guerrero, a member of Philippine Military Academy Class 1984, was supposed to retire in December last year after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.

The President made the announcement during the launch of the Tienda Farmers and Fisherfolks Outlet in Camp Mauel T. Yan Jr., Uburan, Mawab, Compostela Valley.

Guerrero, known as “Jagger,” was the former head of Eastmincom that carried out military operations against the New People’s Army. He belongs to the Army Special Forces and was previously a member of then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s Presidential Security Group.

“Jagger will take over Marina,” Duterte told his audience.

Guerrero will replace former Marina chief Marcial “Al” Amaro III who was fired by Duterte for allegedly making excessive foreign trips.

He will be the sixth top military officials to be appointed in civilian government posts, the first being former AFP chief, Ricardo Visaya, who is now National Irrigation Administration (NIA) chief, Roy Cimatu who is now the Department of Environment secretary, Jason Aquino who heads the National Food Authority (NFA), Danilo Lim, chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and latest is Eduardo Año, who officer-in-charge of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
