Vehicle sales climbed 10.3 percent in November from a year ago, representing the highest growth this year, two industry groups said Wednesday.

The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. and the Truck Manufacturers Association said in a joint report automobile sales reached 34,465 units in November, up from 31,258 vehicles during the same month in 2018.

Data showed sales on a month-on-month basis, rose 0.2 percent from the October figure, providing a positive sign of sustained demand.

CAMPI president Rommel Gutierrez said the growth was a positive signal for the recuperating industry.

“We are continuously working double time to achieve the industry’s overall sales target of 410,000 units which we believe remains achievable,” Gutierrez said.

Total sales in the first 11 months reached 336,226 units, up by 3.27 percent from 335,569 units sold in the same period last year.  Passenger cars grew 0.1 percent to 99,951 units from 99,853 units while commercial vehicles increased 4.7 percent to 236,275 units from 225,746 units.

CAMPI and TMA account for 89 percent of the overall sales target, while the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors Inc. accounts for 11 percent.

CAMPI and TMA said sales of passenger cars in November rose 3.8 percent to 9,551 units from 9,197 units a year earlier while commercial vehicle sales went up 12.9 percent to 24,914 units from 22,061 units.

Gutierrez said the market demand for December was expected to remain robust, supported by continuous sales promotions and sustained positive economic outlook.

December usually posts the fastest growth in demand for vehicles every year as consumers, who get more income from the 13th month pay and year-end bonuses, are enticed by promotions given by car companies.

Top sellers in November were Toyota Motors Philippines Corp. with  42.85-percent of the market, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. with 29.59 percent, Nissan Philippines Inc. with 11.67 percent; Ford Motor Company Philippines Inc. with 5.85 percent and Suzuki Philippines Inc. with 6.51 percent.
