The Navotas City Government on Sunday held the “Takbo ni Juan para sa Iskolar ng Bayan” as some 3,000 residents and non-residents joined the cause.

Running on its tenth year, the annual activity continues to help raise funds for the NavotaAs Scholarship Program.

Rep. John Rey Tiangco, together with Vice Mayor Clint Geronimo, the city council, and barangay officials, led the annual fun run with 3- and 5-kilometer distances.

“We are fortunate to have constituents who are active stakeholders of education. Their support and contribution makes our goal of providing quality, holistic and inclusive learning for all Navoteños more doable and sustainable,” Tiangco said.

“Education is and will always be a priority in Navotas because we believe that it is one of the solid foundations of the present generation’s bright future,” he added.

Navotas offers scholarships to students who excel in academics, sports, and arts, as well as to children or chosen family members of the Top Ten Outstanding Fisherfolk awardees.

Scholars receive allowance for tuition, books, and food and transportation. Athletic and art scholars also receive financial assistance for their trainings and workshops.

The city also offers scholarships to teachers who wish to pursue higher studies. As of October 2019, Navotas has 499 scholars, including 173 academic scholars, 135 athletic scholars, 24 art scholars, and 11 fisherfolk scholars.

This year, Navotas received the Seal of Good Education Governance for the second time.
