The Makati City government has installed more than 1,000 closed-circuit television cameras in public schools in the city to ensure the safety of students inside the school premises.

“The CCTV cameras have been installed in strategic parts of the school premises to ensure the safety and protection of students. Being a second home to them, the schools should be able to make them feel safe while learning,” said Mayor Abigail Binay.

Binay tapped engineer Lauro Reyes, head of the Department of Engineering and Public Works, in installing 1,176 CCTVs to improve security in 27 public schools.

The CCTV cameras are located at the entrance and exit gates of the schools and other strategic locations so that security personnel can easily monitor any inappropriate or illegal activities inside the school premises and on its perimeter areas, according to the city chief executive.

Reyes, in his report to the Office of the Mayor, said 962 dome and 214 bullet CCTV cameras were installed in 27 public schools—13 in District 1 and 14 in District 2, including the division office of the Department of Education-Makati.
