How Torres stays healthy and motivated

Jomary "The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres is one of the most active female mixed martial artists on the ONE Championship roster.

Torres, who started learning martial arts when she was a teenager, has already recorded seven matches in a span of 25 months.

As she patiently waits for her next assignment, the 23-year-old Zamboanga del Norte native reveals how she stays motivated and injury-free in her career.

For Torres, her secret is very basic. She maintains her daily activities in- and outside of the gym while developing healthy lifestyle habits.

“Whether there’s a match or not, I work both technically and physically,” Torres shared.

“I have training schedules in the morning, afternoon, and at night. That is what keeps me in shape.”

While training, Torres also teaches at the gym. Amid her busy schedule, the SEA Sambo Championships Bronze Medalist never forgets to take preventive measures to make sure she stays in great health.

“For me, it’s all about staying focused with whatever you do. I do a lot, I stay active but I make sure that I don’t wear myself out,” Torres said.

“I don’t really stretch myself thin during sparring. What’s important is we get the idea of the drill. Of course, protectors are very important as we need to stay away from injury,” she added.

Looking to stop an alarming slide, Torres has yet to take her eyes off the prize as she still hopes to one day become the ONE Atomweight World Champion.

For the Catalan Fighting System athlete, that will only happen if she stays active and remains healthy.

“Every athlete dreams of one day becoming a World Champion. I won’t be able to reach that if I’m not physically and mentally 100 percent,” Torres said.

“That’s why I always prepare myself. Whether there’s a match coming or not, I just keep on working on my game while keeping myself healthy – because that’s my main weapon in attaining my dream.”

One Championship’s next event, ONE: CENTURY, takes place at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on 13 October.

The Home Of Martial Arts brings fans 28 World Champions, four World Title bouts, three World Grand Prix Championship Finals, and four World Champion versus World Champion match-ups in this historic event.
