Meralco auction gets lone bidder

Power retailer Manila Electric Co. plans to hold another bidding for the 1,200-megawatt baseload power supply after only one bidder submitted an offer.

“Since only one bidder tendered an offer, the TPBAC [third party bids and awards committee] has advised us that a failure of bidding was declared for the competitive selection process for 1,200-MW baseload for operations by 2024,” Meralco senior vice president and head of legal William Pamintuan said.

Atimonan One Energy Inc. of Meralco PowerGen Corp. emerged as the only bidder.

This is the second CSP undertaken by Meralco. The first was on Sept. 9 where the TPBAC declared the bids submitted by Phinma Energy Corp., San Miguel Energy Corp. and South Premiere Power Corp. as the best bids.

“The DoE’s [Department of Energy] CSP guidelines provide for a possible re-bidding of the said baseload requirement, and Meralco will carefully consider the same and will also submit the planned way forward to the DoE,” Pamintuan said.
