Her victory reflects the full approval her constituents have given her. Through all the controversies and mudslinging Mayor Guiani had to endure during the campaign period, she emerged unscathed and has been vindicated.

From a city that was notorious for its crime rate and illegal drug problem, Cotabato was named the second safest city in the country during the first quarter of 2018 by the Philippine National Police. This happened under her term. The various measures she had undertaken for the city have successfully curtailed the drug problem and reduced crime.

Of course, the people of Cotabato City are happy about it because they can now walk around their own city freely and safely.

And now that the elections are behind her, the feuds and the personal attacks have been laid to rest, she wants to promote unity among the people of the city. As she said in her speech following her oath-taking, “There is only one use of power and that is to serve the people of Cotabato City.”

The people of Cotabato have reclaimed their city, and they celebrated their 60th founding anniversary in a splashy way.

The mayor hosted a party at the plaza dubbed “Disco sa Kalye” of which thousands attended and danced almost all night. There were also a motocross event and various other festivities.

“It was heartwarming to see a large crowd of Cotabateños celebrate. This only proved that the people were confident about going out at night, knowing that they would be safe,” said the mayor.

But after the party, it was back to serious work for the mayor. Mayor Guiani vowed to further expand on her advocacy to make Cotabato an even much safer place for her constituents.

The city’s streets will soon be equipped with state-of-the-art CCTV cameras that come with sensors that can identify license plates. The cameras will also have facial detection capability and help traffic enforcers manage the city’s traffic.

As a result of the city’s peace and order situation, Cotabato has been managing to attract a sizable number of investors.

“My second priority is to build a stronger economy for this city,” said the mayor. “The Chinese are investing in Cotabato City International Airport and the Sea Port. These will not only open more opportunities for global marketing and tourism, but they will also employ thousands of Cotabateños.”
