Cignal TV Inc., the pay-television unit of MediaQuest Holdings Inc., said it is in talks with Netflix Inc. to create more content for the subscribers of the US video streaming company.

Vitto Angelo Lazatin, vice president and head content management acquisition and strategy at Cignal, said his company and Netflix had discussed the possibility of producing more content.

“We definitely want to be able to pitch more of our past and future projects,” Lazatin told reporters during the announcement of its partnership with Netflix.

“We would like to get eyeballs outside the Philippines and to have our content seen outside the Philippines that is exciting for us,” Lazatin said.

Netflix earlier acquired the international rights to stream “Ang Babaeng Allergic sa Wifi,” a commercial film produced by Cignal in cooperation with October Train Films and The IdeaFirst Company.

“This our first partnership with Netflix.  We hope it would be the first of many since we’re not going to stop producing content. We’re gonna keep producing series and we’re gonna keep producing movies,” Lazatin said.

It is also the first title from Cignal to be shown on Netflix.

“We believe that content is king and distribution is queen. As such, we are committed to improving and scaling up our original content lineup and are determined to distribute these to all relevant platform,” said Cignal TV president and chief executive Jane Jimenez-Basas.

Lazatin said Cignal TV would spend P100 million a year in the next two years to produce more content.

“I think at least P100 million per year over a couple of years.  That’s [for a] combination of some movies and series,” Lazatin said.

“We wanna keep producing movies we like and series we like,” he said.

Cignal Entertainment has already produced five movies and 10 series ranging from horror, romantic comedy, and dramas.
