President Rodrigo Duterte’s fourth State of the Nation Address on July 22 focused on his administration’s achievements last year, priority bills, and the West Philippine Sea, among other things. But before we heard his 93-minute speech, all eyes were focused on those who walked on the red carpet of Batasang Pambansa, proudly showcasing our traditional garb. Here are the seven looks that we love:

Marga Nograles

Wearing a knee-length terno designed by Bobby Castillo for her label, Kaayo, the social entrepreneur flaunted the beautiful details of Mindanaoan fabric. According to Kaayo, the dress was inspired by the T’boli tribe of Lake Sebu. She wore a pair of nude pointed pumps, maintaining focus on the multicolored dress.

Barong met terno in the Senator’s contemporary piña barong made by Joel Acebuche. According to her, the outfit was made by textile woven in Kalibo and was embroidered in Lumban. The beautiful combination of her ensemble was complemented by her favorite pair of shoes made in Marikina.

The ever-stylish wife of Palawan 1st District Representative Franz Alvarez looked fresh in white Rajo Laurel modern terno with intricate details that further highlighted the silhouette of the dress. She finished the understatedly chic look with a Neil Felipp minaudière and a pair of heels—both in white.

Proving that you can never go wrong with classic, the Senator opted for a classic terno by Randy Ortiz. The callado cutwork and baroque embroidery details added a right amount of elegance to the cream gown.

The Leyte 1st District Representative was stunning in a modern traje de mestiza by Cary Santiago she wore during her Congressional Oath Taking, which happened in the morning. The Congresswoman looked immaculate as she kept her makeup and accessories to a minimum, matching the lovely gray dress with floral prints.

The statuesque wife and mother of three was head-turning in a teal terno and crisp white trousers by Ito Curata. The delicate drapes of her terno and white bottoms reminded us of Jinkee Pacquiao’s last year’s all-white Michael Leyva pantsuit. She accessorized with a pair of Kalachuchi earrings by Riqueza Jewellery.

Tootsy Angara

Always on the “SONA best dressed” list, she wore a pristine white modern Filipiniana dress with silk piña sleeves by Michael Leyva to this year’s event. The clean lines of the dress balanced the cloud-like sleeves. Standing out in her white ensemble was the rainbow pin she wore in support of the LGBTQ community.
