Cavitex set to open C5 Link Flyover on Tuesday

Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. said it is set to open on Tuesday the first 2.2-kilometer section of the 7.7-km Cavitex C5 Link Expressway.

The 2.2-km section (C5 Link Flyover) will connect C5 to Merville, Pasay City and Sucat, Parañaque.

Upon completion of the C5 South Link, the urban expressway will provide motorists new routes when traversing the traffic-choked corridors between Parañaque City, Las Piñas City, Pasay City and Taguig City.

“Vehicular traffic spends about 1.5 hours just to cross from Villamor area in Pasay City to Taguig via Fort Bonifacio. On opening, this section will have three lanes in each direction and will enable about 8,000 vehicles to easily cross in half that time,” Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said.

“We are committed to pursuing the completion of the remaining sections of the Cavitex C5 Link expressway under the ‘Build, Build, Build’ program of the president,” Villar said.

The C5 Link Flyover project costing about P1.6 billion will be an alternate route for commuters traveling between Fort Bonifacio, C.P. Garcia (C5), Taguig City, Parañaque City, Las Piñas City and Pasay City.

It will directly cross over from C5, Metro Manila Skyway (at-grade) and the South Luzon Expressway to Merville and Sucat.

Upon opening, it is expected to divert vehicular traffic from the often-gridlocked Sales Interchange near Villamor Airbase and ease congestion at SLEx East, West Service Roads and Edsa.

CIC president Roberto Bontia said the company was handling the final touches for the segment.  “Ultimately, we foresee that the Cavitex-C5 Link Expressway will benefit about 50,000 vehicles daily and will afford commuters the expressway experience south of Metro Manila from our Parañaque Toll Plaza to C5 in Taguig City,” Bontia said.

“We intend to start construction of the next 2.1-km section from Merville to Sucat, Las Piñas City by the fourth quarter of this year,” he said.

The Cavitex C5 Link Flyover is the second PPP toll road delivered by CIC’s parent company Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. this year following the successful completion of the NLEx Harbor Link Segment 10 in February 2019.
