PLDT Inc. said it is open to the concept of shared towers with rival Globe Telecom Inc. in areas where common towers will be built nationwide.

“We’ll follow the similar formula, maybe, in areas where we think is more economic for them to build it or because the towers can be shared with others we are willing to work in that basis,” said PLDT chairman and president Manuel Pangilinan.

Pangilinan’s statement came after Globe signed a memorandum of understanding with ISOC Infrastructure Inc. and Malaysia-based tower giant edotco Group Sdn. Bhd. to build 150 cell sites in the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon provinces.

The estimated cost per cell site is $100,000.

Pangilinan said PLDT was in talks with common tower companies for possible partnership.
