Globe Telecom Inc. said it expanded its GoWifi services to more sites around the country to provide access to user-friendly and cost-effective internet connectivity to more Filipinos.

GoWiFi as of March 2019 was accessible in 2,000 sites nationwide, up by 500 sites from the previous year. The additional sites translated into 20,000 access points from 15,000 in 2018 and to about 18 million sessions per month.

Among the expansion areas that will be covered by GoWiFi within the year range from health and educational institutions to some of the biggest retail establishments.

Globe will rollout GoWifi in VRP Medical Center along Edsa in Mandaluyong City, Qualimed, Healthserve in Los Baños, Laguna, Emilio Aguinaldo College, St. Paul University, Cebu Doctors University, Araneta Center in Cubao, all branches of Robinsons Supermarket, and select branches of Robinsons Department Store Puregold  and Shopwise.

Part of the existing areas already covered by GoWiFi are Ayala Malls, Megaworld Malls, SM Supermalls, Robinsons Malls, Ortigas and Co. and Starbucks. GoWiFi services are also available at major transport points such as the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Metro Rail Transit and Light Rail Transit stations.

Meanwhile, Smart Communications Inc. said it expanded its long-term evolution network coverage in Boracay to support sustainable tourism on the island.

To date, Smart has already deployed LTE technology to 83 percent of its Boracay sites. Of these LTE sites, 80 percent have been further upgraded to LTE-Advanced, which gives customers an even faster mobile data experience for better video viewing and mobile gaming, for example.

Smart is also set to expand its LTE coverage and capacity across the island to better serve beachfront hotels and restaurants in the Philippines’ premier tourist destination.

“Through our continuing network upgrade efforts across the country, we are empowering tourists, residents and local businesses alike by providing them with quality connectivity wherever they may be,” said PLDT and Smart senior vice president for network planning and engineering Mario Tamayo.
