Duterte vows to set sail to Canada and return trash

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday night said he would declare war against Canada if the Northern American nation will not take back the heaps of trash it illegally shipped to the country.

Speaking at an earthquake situation briefing in San Fernando, Pampanga, the President warned Canada that it pulls out the tons of garbages it transported to Manila out or he will personally “set sail” and return it to Canada.

“I want a boat prepared. I’ll give a warning to Canada maybe next week that they better pull that thing out or I will set sail to Canada and pour that garbage there,” Duterte said. “I cannot understand why they are making us a dumpsite.”

The President said he will not allow Canada to get away with its action.

“We’re enemies. So, let us fight Canada, we can do that. I will really return it. Just look, I will load the containers to a ship, and I will advise Canada that your garbage is on the way. Prepare a grand reception. Eat it if you want to,” he continued.

“They’re belittling us, and I will really not allow it. That’s why let’s transport that garbage to them. I’ll tell them to prepare and celebrate because your garbage is coming home,” he added.

The President even added that he will dump the garbage trucks full of Canada’s trash in front of the Canadian Embassy in Makati.

“F*** it. Allowing it to that extent… In this world, you need to be superior and look who will allow to be belittled. But not me,” he added.

From 2013 to 2014, a total of 98 container vans arrived in Manila from Canada, which contained plastic scrap material, household trash, plastic bottles, plastic bags, newspapers, and used adult diapers.

Under the Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste and Control Act of 1990, or Republic Act 6969, the discovered trash were classified as hazardous.

However, the western country has not done any actions regarding the container vans even after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in 2017 that Ottawa was already working on the issue.
