The country’s largest cooperative on Wednesday lauded the Polytechnic University of the Philippines “for blazing the trail” to offer a four-year Bachelor of Science in Cooperatives, saying “there should be a good human resource practice so that young millennials would be able to appreciate working with them.”

At a forum in Quezon City, Roy Miclat, 1 Cooperative Insurance System of the Philippines Life and General Insurance president, said that ”while cooperatives have been over-achieving in terms of operational and financial performances, they are rarely seen as employers of choice, particularly among the younger generation of graduates.”

“They [PUP] gambled,” he said.

He said working in a cooperative could be “competitive in terms of career.”

He said they have launched one of their biggest projects, The Koop Leaders Academy (1Koop), a nationwide training program for young cooperative professionals.

“1Koop Leaders Academy is done in partnership with Asia Select Inc., one of the country’s leading human resource companies, that aims to train young minds and build strong foundations in business, tech up their knowledge and skills, and become effective and principled-centered cooperative leaders,” Miclat said.
