The official student-journalists’ organization of the institution bagged the much-coveted Best Student Literary Publication Award for Shades of Gray: Convalescence, the 20th issue of the literary folio of the Benildeans.

The award marks the first-ever CMMA win of the college.

The creative anthology exhibited the refreshing stories of the convalescent—from the concept of life as a “spinning cycle of recovery and resolution” with “tales about chaos and strife” and “bits and pieces of a rectified conflict.”

“Not only does it validate our contribution to the college, but it also shows our fellow Benildeans—and even the wider academic community—that we can be a force to be reckoned with,” enthused Juan Miguel Lago, head of the Student Publications Office.

He further noted the award affirms Benilde’s innovative approach to communications and storytelling.

“In this day and age, it’s becoming increasingly important that we produce better storytellers because they are the recorders of our history, achievements, and humanity,” said Lago. “Shades of Gray: Convalescence is a testament and trophy of every Benildean storyteller, and we hope to inspire even more Benildeans to use their voice to tell better and more meaningful stories that can empower the people around them.”

Other academic outputs which earned CMMA’s recognition were La Salle Greenhills’ Luntiang Panunulat as the Best Student Organ under the grade school category, Casimiro A. Ynares, Sr. Memorial National High School’s The Echoes as the Best Student Organ under the high school division, Cavite State University CCAT Campus’ CVSU-R Nexus Tabloid as the Best Student Organ under the college bracket, and Faith College’s Burning Truth as the Best Student Public Service Print Ad.

The educational organizations were awarded alongside other winning mass media outlets including major publications, television networks, and radio stations at the awarding ceremony at the Star Theater, Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex.
