Hackuna: Mobile security app launched

Two-time Philippine Hacker Games champion and “Cyber Defender: The Power of Hacking” author Alexis Lingad claimed that the mobile application his company, Cryptors, produced may have changed the game in the defense against mobile hackers.

After the 21-year-old founded Cryptors at the age of 18 and won a six-month incubation program from KMC Solutions this year, Lingad developed the Hackuna app. where users can detect any anomalies compromising personal security such as malware as well as public wi-fi hackers.

Hackuna was derived from the famous Lion King movie statement, “Hakuna Matata,” which means no worries.

“Those companies (that are just focusing on anti-virus apps) are not really stopping the hackers and that’s the truth. I want you to realize that you are not being protected by just having an anti-virus because there’s a lot of strategies (to hack your gadgets). In Hackuna, what we’re trying to do is to block the hackers’ strategies because if you want to block the hackers, you must block their strategies in order for you to be protected,” said Lingad.

“In Hackuna, we’re blocking the social engineering, WiFi hack, malicious app, hacker tool and virus,” he added.

After downloading, users can use the WiFi Blocker function which gives them the ability to track the whereabouts of the hacker including information necessary to identify them which includes the kind of device they are operating and it also boasts its capability to block hackers within the network from hacking the user.

“Before, we have to be extra careful in connecting to free WIFI on public areas such as train stations, coffee shops, malls, and government offices because these are the places where WIFI hackers mostly catch their victims. But because Hackuna app is already here to protect your mobile phones against these threats, you don’t need to worry anymore,” Lingad said.

Additionally, its Malware Buster has the ability to detect the hidden spy apps and the trojans that hackers use in controlling users’ phone remotely, while clicking the Permission Analyzer button in the Hackuna app will detect the apps that have unreasonable permission to access the user’s private data, camera, mic, SMS, GPS, call logs and contacts without the user knowing.

“Usually, a mobile security app takes a month to have its 1000 installments. Hackuna just did 10 times of that. In just one month after its public launch, it gained more than 10,000 downloads. Usually, there are only 1% – 5% daily active users in security mobile apps, but in Hackuna, we have 30% – 40% daily active users,” he said.

“There are a lot of apps that seem trusted just because we downloaded it on Play Store but there are still apps that go beyond the security of the platform…By using Hackuna, you will be able to detect these unknown hackers and track them down, it is a truly beautiful weapon,” explained Lingad.

The Hackuna app is already available in Google Play and will soon be available for iOS.

Lingad promises their users a desktop version ready by next year.
