The top spot is at stake as unbeaten league-leaders Barangay Ginebra and Blackwater cross paths in the continuing 2018 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup.
The Gin Kings and the Elite, who both hold excellent 3-0 slates, go different ways when they tangle at 7 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum tonight.
Hours prior, San Miguel Beer (1-1) is looking to return to form when it goes up against cellar-dweller Columbian Dyip (0-5) at 4:30 p.m. in the curtain-raiser.
With their respective resident imports and locals playing beautiful music thus far, Ginebra and Blackwater are both enjoying splendid starts.
Just over a month after winning the Commissioner’s Cup, the two-time defending champions went right back to work, racking up three straight wins to start their title defense.
“We got the start that we wanted. At this point, it’s really about developing our game more,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone, whose Gin Kings topped NorthPort, 104-98, before the league’s two-week break.
While Ginebra’s strong start is no surprise to many, the Elite’s blistering run is catching attention.
Blackwater is looking like a solid playoff team thus far, taking down a big fish in San Miguel, 103-100, the last time out.
It hopes to continue its run as it looks for another upset over Ginebra.
Following that loss to the Elite, the Beermen are now looking to vent their ire on the woeful Dyip, who are still yet to list a win.
