Hundreds of aspiring singers flocked to SkyDome at SM North Edsa for the Manila leg of The Clash auditions. They were welcomed by Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez who personally cheered the aspirants and rendered song numbers which lifted their spirits.

Velasquez did the same thing when the search kicked off its regional auditions in Gaisano Island Mall Mactan in Cebu City on Feb. 17, at Sunshine Park in Baguio City on Feb. 24, and at The Annex Event Center in SM City Davao on March 10.

Auditionees, on the other hand, gave their best shot singing the piece they thought would spell their chance to move on to the next rounds of the competition. They patiently lined up and waited at the event venues hoping to make the cut.

Regine Velasquez is hosting  'The Clash,' the newest search for the country's next singing sensation.

The seasoned chanteuse didn’t get to see them one by one but she knew for sure that the reality search was able to attract a number of talented singers, who may be the next singing superstars—exactly what they are looking for.

“We are not looking for an all-around star here. We are looking for someone who has the talent and the voice to be a recording star. It’s a singing contest to begin with. It’s not a talent reality show where the winner eventually becomes an actor and performer,” Regine said in a recent interview.

Talking about the auditionees, Regine said that she’s amazed with the number of people who auditioned to the new singing show.

“A lot of people wanted to showcase their talent, especially when it comes to music and singing. In The Clash, sigurado ako na mapapakita nila ‘yon kasi iba itong singing competition na ito. It is open to all and it gives everyone a chance—bata man o matanda, may experience man o wala,” she said.

Regine added that once auditionees make the cut, they will go through personality development sessions, voice lessons and a make-over to prepare them for the big TV event.

“We’ll run for 14 weeks and everyone will be given challenges, which means a contestants wouldn’t be able to stay in their comfort zone. It will challenge them to be versatile performers,” Regine shared.

Serving as audition masters were musician and TV director Direk Bert de Leon for Cebu, South Border lead singer Jay Durias for Baguio, and OPM songwriter Vehnee Saturno for Davao. They also lent their expertise accompanying Regine during the Manila leg of the auditions.

For the live show, Regine will be joined by Lani Misalucha, Christian Bautista and AiAi delas Alas as judges.

The Clash’s regional audition was put together by GMA Entertainment Content Group and GMA Regional TV. For more information, follow its Facebook page @TheClashGMA.
