Measles outbreak declared in Taguig

A measles outbreak has been declared in one barangay in Taguig City.

The Department of Health (DOH) is not disclosing the name of the community at this time.

Health Undersecretary Eric Domingo says, Taguig has recorded at least 7 cases of measles.

He is urging parents and guardians to subject their children to government's immunization program against measles.

Last January 23, Davao City also declared a measles outbreak.

This came after four children died due to the disease.

DOH Region 11 Director Abdullah Dumama had said there were 224 cases of measles infection recorded in Davao.

Measles is locally known as 'tigdas.'

It is a highly contagious respiratory infection that comes from a virus.

Persons afflicted with measles have rashes all over their bodies.

The ailment is usually accompanied by fever, cough and colds.
