American footwear company Under Armour breaks down Stephen Curry’s movements to come up with its “most innovative” shoe to hit the market.

The new Under Armour Curry 6 is designed in the way Stephen Curry plays on court.
“Our biomechanics team did an amazing job of breaking down Steph’s movements: how Steph moves into his shots, how Steph accelerates, decelerates, how he jumps, how he produces that force, to give us a really good idea of where do we start when we start to build a shoe,” said Paul Winsper, Under Armour vice president of human performance and research.

Under Armour launches the Curry 6, which features a full-length HOVR midsole contained within an energy web and embedded into the outsole to provide a cushioned, close-to-ground feel and explosive return.

“The Curry shoe is something that gives me ultimate confidence to know that no matter what move I try, it’s gonna ride with me the whole way,” said three-time World Champion and two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry.

This means being able to withstand “the amount of wear and tear that I put my body over the course of 48 minutes” including changing direction and changing speed. “I run on the court more than most people in the NBA,” he added.

Under Armour’s Curry 6 features a full-length HOVR midsole that provides impact absorption and energy return.
According to Leon Gu, designer of the Curry 6, the full-length HOVR provides impact absorption and energy return. Gu explains, “Stephen Curry runs about 2.3 miles per game, and that’s why we wanted to design a shoe that was more like a running shoe for him.”

The Curry 6 has an external heel counter that adds to overall stability and support, while a full-length speed plate keeps the wearer on the balls of their feet “so you can blow right by defenders.”

In addition, the split outsole design of the new Under Armour shoe increases court contact for superior traction.

A fully knit upper made of polyester yarn offers a breathable, compression-like fit to deliver lightweight directional strength.

“The first Curry 6 drop honors the Fox Theater, one of Oakland’s most iconic landmarks, which represents everything Oakland stands for as an inclusive community of creators, thinkers, and dreamers. This is but fitting because in the 10 years since Curry has helped guide Oakland’s Golden State Warriors into the upper echelon of basketball royalty, he has reshaped the way basketball is played and understood,” Under Armour said in a statement.

In the Philippines, fans can already pre-order the Curry 6 at Under Armour stores in SM Megamall, Bonifacio High Street, Greenbelt 3, TriNoma, and Robinsons Magnolia.
