Art merges with water in one dynamic show at the Globe Lakeside in Nuvali.

WATER SHOW. ‘Water Scrolls: Genpei Yashima Battle’ by Sisyu and teamLab, a dynamic historical tale drawn on water, is showcased on a 100-meter wide waterscreen display at Globe Lakeside in Nuvali.

Ayala Land has teamed up with world renowned art collective teamLab to present the first-ever interactive water show that features artworks projected on a waterscreen display spanning 100 meters wide and 15 meters high.

The 30-minute show premiered on Nov. 22 and is ongoing every Friday to Sunday at 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Some of the artworks are interactive as it is co-created in real time by visitors through the teamLab smartphone application.

Interactive art aims to enhance the presence of the audience in the same physical space and to explore a continuity without boundaries between people and the world around them.

The show creator, teamLab is a digital art collective composed of artists, scientists, animators, and more. The team has had multiple exhibitions all around the world over the past years including New York, London, Paris, Singapore, Silicon Valley, Beijing, Taipei, and Melbourne among others.

For its first major exhibit in the Philippines, teamLab features four different artworks.

“Born from the Water, a Loving and Beautiful World” by Sisyu and teamLab is an interactive work where visitors can select their favorite characters on their smartphones, swipe them towards the water screen, and see the worlds that those characters embody create a single world.

The “teamLab Interactive Fishing Party: Spin your Fishing Reel–Water Screen” is another interactive digital installation where viewers can use their smartphones like a fishing reel and work with others to catch a variety of fish in the pond.

According to the creator, when a fish is hooked, people with the same-colored reel spin their reels together. If everyone spins enough, that colored line will catch the fish. If people don’t spin enough, the fish will escape. Information for the fish they catch will be imported to their smartphone, and they can start their own fishing catalogue.

Meanwhile, “Water Scrolls: Genpei Yashima Battle” is a beautiful and dynamic historical tale drawn on water by Sisyu and teamLab as well.

“Reversible Rotation in Water” features a Spatial Calligraphy written on the water that rotates in the artwork space. Every aspect rotating in the same direction, but depending on a viewer’s perception, it can appear to be rotating either clockwise or counterclockwise.

Spatial Calligraphy is calligraphy written in an abstract space, which teamLab has been working on since its founding. The artwork reconstructs Japanese sho (calligraphy) in three-dimensional space and expresses the depth, speed, and power of the brush stroke. The calligraphy shifts between two and three dimensions.

Ayala Land welcomes this interactive water show to the 2,290-hectare eco-city, which both residents and visitors can enjoy.

“One of our goals in Ayala Land is to always find ways to give back and spread cheer to the community. From our signature light and sound show, art fairs, wellness and other community events across our estate developments, we continuously think about how we can create new and memorable experiences for the whole family, especially this holiday season,” said Cathy Bengzon, Ayala Land corporate brand and estate group marketing head.
