Known for her fun, unique, and romantic style, fashion designer Sassa Jimenez recently marked her 10 years in the industry in a fitting way—showcasing her signature whimsical work.
Her anniversary collection, aptly dubbed Ten, speaks of movement. Each piece is crafted to evoke movement through the use of signature elements present in Jimenez’s collection through the years.
From the drop of each ruffle and fold on every piece to Jimenez’s own journey in the industry, the collection is the apex of all the passion and hard work she has put into her career.
“There are some techniques that I’ve used throughout the years. One is the jellyfish-like ruffles that we used in earlier collections and revived in the anniversary collection,” she shared. “The most challenging part was making classic looks without sacrificing uniqueness and creativity.”
According to Jimenez, the collection’s highlight was a teal ball gown with a sweeping layered train.
She said, “This particular collection stands out because it’s a culmination of everything we’ve perfected throughout the years. It really shows the playfulness I have when it comes to designing womenswear.”
“It also showcases how I always want to pay homage to a woman’s figure but still incorporating interesting or exaggerated shapes,” she added.
In honor of 10 whimsical years of style stories, Jimenez gathered family and friends for an exhibit launch that featured key pieces from Ten. She also screened an equally whimsical collection film directed by Adrian Calumpang and scored by CRWN.
Jimenez expressed gratitude to her community of family and friends for keeping her motivated.
“It’s really a celebration of the brand and how grateful we are for the people that brought us here,” she said. “It is also a reintroduction of myself as a designer and how much I’ve grown in the last 10 years.”
“I’ve learned that there is strength in knowing what you are good at and developing that. Always play to your strengths and collaborate with those who supplement your weaknesses.”
Jimenez’s studio is at Unit 2C-2D, 60 Jupiter Street, Makati City. Email [email protected] or go to sassajimenez.com for inquiries and more details.
