Calm in the chaos

For summer, Kenneth Cole was inspired by three trends: the ruralization of the city (bringing rural elements into an urban environment), the rehabilitation of work wear (the rekindling of functional elements and handiwork), and the pause philosophy (finding the calm in the chaos and using technology to free us, not cage us).

It’s all about living in the city in a less chaotic way. Natural influences, like vertical fields and city farming, soften the concrete and steel structures we call home; a refreshing mindset frees us from our constantly on-the-go lifestyles; and we enjoy the ultimate luxury of time to recharge, rediscover, and redefine. It’s about escaping the city without actually leaving it.

While there is a focus on sturdy textiles and robust detailing, there is also a fresh and relaxed construction to these collections. Think engineered ease and minimalist structure—inspired by natural liberation, cultural discovery, and relaxed retreat.

In the women’s footwear, the colors reflect the varying shades you find in urban green spaces, like the High Line and Promenade Plantée in Paris. There are neutrals in suede and nubuck, materials in soft pinks and greens, and vibrant reds and cobalt blues—the colors of the sky just before sunset. With a focus on natural elements, there is the infusion of woods in stacked heels, blonde woods in the wedges, and cork in the uppers and foot beds. Foliage also comes into play with the all-over black-and-white foliage-printed Kam, as well as embroidered and embellished floral on wedges, slip-ons, and sneakers. Silver and gold materials and the sparkle of jewels pay homage to urban metals, city lights, and the reflection of the sun off the buildings.

Kenneth Cole’s summer collection—for both men’s and women’s footwear—is inspired by ruralization of city living, work wear, and finding calm in the chaos

In the men’s footwear, the dominant theme is peace, relaxation, and comfort. Washed suedes, natural canvas, and mixed materials complement the tranquility. To take a moment to breathe, there’s ventilation with a knitted upper on a cup sole construction. Woven leather uppers and natural leather welt details rest gently on comfort rubber soles. A bold reaction to the serenity, there are rich and vibrant colors in saturated reds, navy, and mimosa. More calming moments come from neutrals in grey leathers with burnished finishes, and suede in taupe and slate blue.

In the Philippines, Kenneth Cole is at C1 Bonifacio High Street Central, Power Plant Mall, Rustan’s Makati, Alabang Town Center, B7 Bonifacio High Street, TriNoma, SM Mall of Asia, and Abreeza Davao.
