Baking a cake used to be an activity for those with the skills, the equipment, and the time to do it. Well, not anymore.
Even those with little to no knowledge about baking or don’t have those fancy-schmancy baking tools and oven can now have their cake and eat it, too as cake mixes and all-purpose flour brand Maya launches its newest product, the Maya Happy Mug.
Maya Happy Mug is a convenient mug cake mix that can be prepared and cooked in the microwave for two minutes. Each pack comes in a paper cup and contains a ready to mix cake and sauce. It’s available in two flavors: chocolate cake with caramel sauce and caramel cake with chocolate sauce.
Making the mug cake is quick and simple: you can use its paper cup container or a mug, put the cake mix, add one and half tablespoon of water, mix, put in a microwave for two minutes, add the sauce (which you can also put in the mix before putting it in a microwave), and enjoy.
Maya Kitchen Culinary Arts Center’s chefs suggest adding your favorite toppings after—you can use fruits, candy sprinkles, and chopped nuts, among others—or eat it on its own.
Each pack is good for one serving.
In an interview with Eric Fajardo, business development manager of Liberty Commodities Corporation, the distributor of Maya products, he said Maya Happy Mug enables them to bring their products to more people, especially to those with no oven.
“Here [in the Philippines] we’re very familiar with the cup noodles and its value and convenience. Happy Mug allows us to make our products easier and more accessible [to more people] because usually with our cake mixes, it takes a lot of time and effort to make one, and you’ll also need an oven—there are a lot of barriers,” Fajardo told Manila Standard.
The mug cake, Fajardo said, is ideal for mothers who want to indulge once in a while without having to go through the whole process of baking. It’s also a great activity parents and their children can do together.
It’s also great for employees in offices with microwave in the pantry.
