One Great Step, one great show
As part of Infinitie's 3rd anniversary celebration and as a way to thank their fans all over the world for their never-ending support, Sungkyu, Dongwoo, Hoya, Woohyun, L, Sungyeol and Sungjong embarked on their first world tour titled “One Great Step” which kicked off in Seoul, South Korea last August. They have already performed in Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Manila is their 12th stop and they are scheduled to end the year with tours in America, Dubai, and Europe.
Infinite went on stage wearing black gold-embedded jackets to open the show with “Destiny” followed up by “Tic-Toc”. Before they continue with the third song “Paradise”, Philippine Inspirit (the group’s official fan club name) began screaming as the group discarded their jackets, leaving them with only black wifebeaters and showing more of their skin.
After three songs, the group took a breather to welcome the fans and to the surprise of everyone in the venue, they spoke straight Filipino during their introductions. Sungjong said “Kamusta po? Ako po ang pinaka-cute sa grupo. Ako po si Sungjong.” Woohyun even exclaimed ‘”itsa!” while throwing big hearts to the audience. Before they go on with their next performance, Sungkyu greeted the fans, saying “Matagal din po tayong di nagkita! Kamusta po ang lahat?” He expressed that they were happy to be back to meet the fans for the second time this year and they were more than excited to show more of their charisma and talent throughout the show.
Hiphop sub-unit Infinite H which is composed of Dongwoo and Hoya performed “Special Girl." Sungjong and Sungyeol who seemed like they were DJ-ing in a club sang 1/3. Woohyun and L gave a finger-curling number as they woo the fans with their boy-next-door appearance, singing “Love U like you” and “Beautiful” respectively whereas Sungkyu showed his singing prowess in “60 seconds."
Other songs performed were “The Chaser,” “Wings,” “Inception,” “She’s Back,” “Man in Love,” “The Chaser,” “Nothing’s Over,” “Cover Girl” and “BTD.”
It was impossible not to notice that the show was excellently produced. The lighting in every song was superb, the execution of the routines and synchronization of all the members were flawless and the videos in between segments were remarkable. Every member’s specialty was highlighted equally. Moreover, the whole concert was a perfect mix of amazing performances and a venue to get closer to the fans.
During “I like you," the group went around tossing small stuffed animals to the audience, taking the fans’ cameras to snap a quick selca, and shake their hands. L even reached out to one lucky Inspirit in the lower box section and signed an autograph for her.
Another commendable thing about the concert was that the group did not have an interpreter to communicate with their fans. Though there were a few instances when they spoke a little Korean, they mostly spoke English the entire time. They even sang a part of Bahay Kubo to the fans delight.
As the festivities were about to end and while the group was saying the heartfelt thank you to everyone who came, the yellow ocean inside the big dome started singing Dongwoo a happy birthday complete with banners and party hats. It made him cry and could only thank everyone for the sweet gesture. He said that his parents were in the country and watching the concert as well which made that night extra special.
Sungkyu ended saying that the fans keep them going. They still cannot believe that they will meet Inspirits all over the world but their world tour made their dream possible. “We are happy to hold the concert for you!” he said.
Up close with Infinite
The concert was scheduled on November 3 at the Big Dome but the group flew in a day before to meet the members of the media on November 2 at Crowne Plaza Galleria in Ortigas, their official residence during their stay.
The boys entered the ballroom hall in suits. You could almost assume they would not be that amiable but when they started introducing themselves one by one, they started to loosen up and gave everyone a glimpse of their personalities.
Infinite is composed of Sungkyu, the eldest and the leader of the group; Dongwoo, the resident crybaby and main rapper; Woohyun, the one in charge of sweeping of the ladies’ feet with his good looks and flower boy skills; Hoya, the main dancer; Sungyeol, considered as the sexy boy of the group; L, or Myungsoo for most fans, is the visual and face of Infinite; and Sungjong, the cute maknae (youngest member).

It was Infinite’s second time in the country. The first time was last January when they participated in Dream KPOP Fantasy Concert together with other Korean acts. Thus, when asked about it, Sungyeol said that they were overwhelmed with the support of Philippine Inspirit. They did not expect that there would be so many of them. “We are touched by the fans. They are so dedicated so we decided to come back” he said. The group was excited to see their fans again in the concert.
Sungkyu stated that the group is planning to rest or go for a vacation after their tour ends. Perhaps, next year they would be working on a new album. After Manila, they are set to go to the US, Dubai, and Europe for the tour.
Infinite proudly answered that the Philippines is a beautiful country with lots of beautiful girls. Sungkyu wanted to go visit the world famous Boracay beach. Dongwoo said that he took his parents to the island though he did not stay for long because he was busy. Nevertheless, his parents had a wonderful experience during their vacation. He is looking forward to go there in the future.
The concert was organized by the Araneta Group’s Uniprom Inc. and supported by Asiana Airlines, Pepsi, Crowne Plaza, Astroplus, Myx, JAC Motors and When in Manila.
