Zarraga, Iloilo—The rural health unit of Zarraga in Iloilo has always been an exemplary health facility. It has consistently contributed to the outstanding performance of the local government unit, which has received the Department of the Interior and Local Government Seal of Good Local Governance for three consecutive years.

The health center has also garnered high marks in the government’s citizen satisfaction index. Through its birthing center, TB DOTS facility and animal bite clinic, it has always served its constituents efficiently.

Helping the health center maintain the high quality of its services is BDO Foundation. As part of ongoing efforts to help improve the healthcare delivery system in the Philippines, the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank recently rehabilitated Zarraga Rural Health and Birthing Center.

“Our gratitude to BDO Foundation for extending a helping hand and making this possible,” said Zarraga Rural Health and Birthing Center municipal health officer Dr. Clemencia Bondoc, who also serves as president of the Association of Municipal Health Officers of the Philippines.

“I will ensure that the rural health unit will always be a role model of how a health facility should function,” she added.

The foundation did major improvements on the rural health unit’s layout and interior design, lobby and waiting areas, offices, clinics, consultation rooms, treatment rooms and facilities.

It also constructed a play area for children complete with books and toys as well as a waiting lounge where the elderly can stay comfortably.

These improvements enable Zarraga’s health workers to provide primary healthcare services more effectively to mothers and babies, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and other patients.

Zarraga Rural Health and Birthing Center is one of three health centers recently rehabilitated by BDO Foundation. The foundation also worked on Altavas Rural Health Unit in Aklan and Dumarao Rural Health Unit and Birthing Facility in Capiz.

More than 98,000 people are expected to benefit from these corporate citizenship initiatives.
