Mayor John Rey Tiangco on Wednesday congratulated the 16 graduates of Bidahan, the community-based rehabilitation, and treatment program of Navotas for substance use disorder patients.

Fourteen of the graduates completed the course in six months, and two completed 18 months of counseling.

“We are happy that our efforts to help Navoteños with SUD are bearing fruit. We hope more will participate in Bidahan and take responsibility for their recovery,” Tiangco said.

The mayor thanked Navoteños for their constant support to the city’s anti-drug campaign.

Residents may report illegal activities through Text JRT numbers 0915-2601385, 0908-8868578 and 0922-8888578.

Bidahan participants go through a three-day retreat where they learn about the effects of drugs on their body and ways to avoid getting hooked into substance abuse.

They are also taught proper grooming, healthy lifestyle, as well as how to value themselves and their loved ones.

They will then engage in a twice-a-week counseling session for six months and once a week counseling for 18 months, and undertake random drug testing to ensure their compliance to the program.

Navotas’ anti-drug campaign also includes Philippine National Police–Navotas Nurture and Educate Surrenderees Towards Transformation, and faith-based interventions such as Sipag and Gabay projects.

The Bidahan program started in October 2016 and has since had 18 batches composed of 462 participants. Of this, 90 completed the 6-month and five finished the 18-month program.

For those willing to undergo Bidahan, they may visit the Navotas Anti-Drug Abuse Council Office at the first floor of Navotas City Hall or they may call 283-7250.
