The Navotas City Government, in partnership with Gabay Guro, honored teachers with a star-studded concert at the recent Navotas Teachers’ Day celebration.

Singers Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Ogie Alcasid, Martin Nievera, Gabby Concepcion, and Julie Anne San Jose serenaded the 1,800 teachers in the city.

The event also featured Jonalyn Viray, Randy Santiago, Jason Dy, and Renz Verano, as well as comedians Ate Gay and Regina Otic.

Not to be outdone, Mayor John Rey Tiangco and Vice Mayor Clint Geronimo performed a dance number as tribute to Navotas’ teachers.

“We only want the best for our teachers. This is our way of honoring the sacrifices they made for the Navoteño youth, for helping them become upstanding citizens,” Tiangco said.

The mayor thanked all Navotas educators for their steadfast support and commitment towards ensuring that Navoteño youth get the best education they deserve.

“This year, we bagged two major achievements: the Seal of Good Education Governance and the Galing Pook award for our ACcessible, Holistic and Inclusive Education. All of these were made possible because of you and your dedication to your vocation. From all of us at the city government, thank you very much,” he added.

The mayor also thanked PLDT senior vice president and Gabay Guro chairperson Chaye Cabal-Revilla for helping the city make the tribute for teachers more special.

Rep. Toby Tiangco also expressed his appreciation to the Navotas teachers for their love and care for their students.

“Navotas is fortunate to have teachers who go beyond their duties for the sake of the young minds entrusted to them. We cannot thank you enough for your commitment to provide quality learning for our youth,” he said.

Navotas celebrates Navotas Teachers’ Day every second Friday of December per Municipal Ordinance No. 2006-02. This year’s celebration came a bit early in consideration of the Department of Education’s announcement that Christmas break will start next week.

The city provides scholarship to teachers who wish to pursue higher studies. Teacher-scholars receive tuition assistance, transportation/food allowance, book stipend and research grant.

Early this year, the city held a three-day professional advancement seminar for public elementary and high school teachers, aiming to renew their passion and vigor with regard to their profession, as well as teach the value of self-love.
