Secretary Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Operations Office has applauded the creation of Muntinlupa Barangay Information Officers and hopes that it will serve as a benchmark practice in the country.

Andanar led the oath taking ceremony of the information group last Jan. 23 at Muntinlupa City Hall in Putatan and noted it was the first and only active communicators’ group in the community level in the country.

The information officers’ network in the city “serves as an inspiration” to the PCOO to further improve the flow of information from the national and local government to the grassroots, Andanar said.

He also underscored the importance of face-to-face interactions in bringing information to every Filipino and having a strong communicators’ network in the barangay to counteract the spread of fake news and unverified information.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi vowed to support the PCOO in building bridges with everyone through effective communication strategies.

Muntinlupa Barangay Information Officers was piloted by the city’s Public Information Officer Tez Navarro last 2017 with more than 50 members.

Similarly, the PCOO recently launched the Provincial Communication Officers Network (PCO Net), which aims to bring news from Malacañang to the LGUs and communities to ensure the policies and plans of the Duterte administration are communicated to every Filipino.
