TEN outstanding domestic helpers have been selected from 390 candidates in the second year of the JCI Senate Philippines’ “Kasambahay, Kasambuhay Awards” search sponsored by financial services firm Palawan. Last year, only five awardees were given honors.

This year’s winners are siblings Teresita and Maria Tardecilla, aged 82 and 76, respectively from Manila; Mila Gamboa, 40, Tarlac Province; Joseph Bayona Jr., 49, Valenzuela City; Lily Primavera, 59, Makati City; Zosima Jumuad, 68, Paranaque City; Wilma Semira, 57, Batangas City; Esteban Amar, 52, Quezon City; Ernestina Rosales, 73, Cebu City; and Teresita Alatan, 58, Zamboanga City.

They will formally receive their awards September 30 in a fun-filled event for household helpers at the BF Resort covered tennis court at Carnival Park in Las Piňas City. Each winner takes home a trophy, P50,000 cash, and a three-day all-expenses-paid vacation for two at a plush vacation spot in Palawan province.

From 3 to 7 p.m., TV personalities “Mommy Dionisia” Pacquiao, Benjie Paras and son Andre Paras will lead a bevy of talented performers, including Palawan’s own Manila PPS dancers, in the vaudeville-themed “Kasambahay, Kasambuhay” awards ceremonies with hundreds of domestic helpers expected as audience.

The Palawan firm will fete both the winners and attendees with prizes, organizers said.

Motivated by inclusivity concerns, JCI first launched the Kasambahay, Kasambuhay Pilipinas Awards last year and resolved to do it yearly in partnership with Palawan Express Pera Padala. Before this, the civic organization only focused on the search for the country’s Ten Outstanding Young Men, whose accomplishments showed promise in business and industry.
