DAVAO CITY—Mayor “Inday” Sara Duterte assured the public Wednesday that this city remains safe despite the bombing in Sultan Kudarat that killed two persons and injured 36 on Tuesday evening.
Mayor Inday said the city has never lowered its guard after the 2016 Roxas Night Market bombing and at Davao will remain on heightened alert.
“With the bombing incident in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, all the more that our security forces will be vigilant,” the mayor said.
She asked the public to cooperate with the security measures to ensure the safety of the people.
“There are random check points and some other measurers that the Davao City Police Office and Task Forces Davao are doing. I’d like to solicit everybody’s cooperation with this,” she said.
She added that the public should not be scared of the security procedure of the DCPO and Task Force Davao especially if they are not hiding anything.
On Sunday, the city will commemorate the second anniversary of the Roxas Night Market Bombing, which killed 15 persons and hurt at least 70.
Duterte also said the city is willing to follow the decision of the Office of the President and the security forces if they see a need to extend martial law in Mindanao, which is currently in force until the end of the year.
“We follow the decision of the Office of the President, Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police because they are better informed by the intelligence units on the need to extend martial law in Mindanao,” she said.
