Cauayan City, Isabela—Responding to the global call to work for the attainment of food security, SM Foundation has organized a three-month hands-on training in a demonstration farm established at Barangay San Pablo here.

"SM's Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Program [KsK] has partnered with Harbest Agribusiness Corporation in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office, the Department of Agriculture, and the city government of Cauayan," Krystal Gayle Agbulig, Public Relations Manager at the SM City Cauayan said.

A total 121 farmers from Cauayan City and Echague town of Isabela graduated from a three-month farming technology training spearheaded by SM  Foundation through its ‘Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan’ program. Shown are the

The group of 121 farmers is the third batch of beneficiaries of the 'Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan' farmer’s training program in Isabela, the 196th batch of farmer-beneficiaries nationwide since it started in 2007, Agbulig added.

"The trainees were familiarized on seed culture and modern propagation, irrigation, fertilizer application, pruning, mulching, and safe farming," said Conrado Calderon, an agriculturist working as Marketing Coordinator of Harbest Agribusiness Corp.

On Tuesday, a harvest festival was held at the demonstration farm in Sitio Manalpaac of Barangay San Pablo, where the farmers had the opportunity to sell their harvests.

Some of the fresh harvest were used in a cooking contest. Participants and guests had chance to savor dishes during a "boodle-fight" lunch.

The 121 graduates were presented in a graduation ceremony held at the function area of Building A of SM City Cauayan on Wednesday.
