Tuguegarao—Department of Public Works and Highways-Cagayan Valley Regional Director Melanio C. Briosos has declared the completion of the P458-million Pigalo bridge project in Angadanan, Isabela.
The new mega-bridge connects rural communities in Isabela to the rest of the region, will hasten the delivery of agricultural products, and boost economic productivity of the farmers here, he said.
The project, which spans 450 meters with a 500-meter road network for the approaches, crosses the Cagayan River. It has a carriageway width of 7.32 meters and drainage structures and embankment protections.
“The reconstruction of the 450-meter bridge will restore the regular routine of the residents and is expected to increase the economy of Angadanan and nearby towns by easing the transport of goods and services,” Briosos said.
Mayor Lourdes Panganiban of Angadanan said the realization of the project “will advance the economy in the locality and help our farmers transport their commodities easily.”
Panganiban said the bridge renovation “is finally a dream come true for our municipality” since Typhoons “Pedring” and “Quiel” wrecked it eight years ago.
The replacement of Pigalo Bridge will also drastically reduce travel time around the area, Rep. Jose T. Panganiban Jr. of Anak-IP Party-list said.
Travel time between the barangays of Angadanan and San Guillermo town and other municipalities along Cagayan River will be cut short by 30 minutes, DPWH engineers estimated.
Briosos stressed the bridge that replaced the dilapidated overflow structure “puts out the misery of the people who have been risking their lives and properties crossing the old ravaged bridge, posing danger to motorist and pedestrians in the past years.”
Residents of the Cagayan Valley province will no longer be burdened in transporting their agricultural products to the commercial centers, he added.”‹
