If you don’t recognize her name, Melizza Jimenez, 18, has had  TV and movie appearances before. She’s a multihyphenate artist who already exhibits so much potential at this early stage of her career.

Melizza’s biggest breaks to date are her stints in the blockbuster film Barcelona: A Love Untold, which starred Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, and in the long-running primetime series, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.

“In Barcelona, I played Kathryn’s younger sister. And in Ang Probinsyano, I also had the same character. I portrayed Sam Pinto’s younger sister, too,” she said during a chat with Manila Standard.

“Having a break in showbiz is not that easy. You would encounter a lot of rejections. I have entered show business before, but it’s only now that I am really spending time to focus on my career. I’m currently in my gap year so I decided that it’s a good chance to showcase my talent,” the senior high graduate shared.

Melizza was discovered as a 12-year-old “timid girl.” She went to a public workshop and also auditioned for Pinoy Big Brother.

“PBB housemates are my inspiration. They brought happiness to me. I told myself that one day I could also bring happiness to people who would be watching me,” she said.

Though her PBB dream did not materialize, Melizza is now a proud member of the elite crop of young talents being honed by ABS-CBN—the Star Magic Circle 2019.

Star Circle Batch 2019 talent Melizza Jimenez, or Meliza Juane Tanpoco in real life, wants to be known as a performer and a serious actress.

While having several skills and talents is no longer unusual in showbiz, Melizza may still be considered a cut above the rest. Not only she’s into music, but she also writes her own songs (two of which will soon be dominating the airwaves and digital platforms). She doesn’t just act and dance, she’s a budding painter, too.

“But right now, I’d like people to know me as someone who can sing and act,” the statuesque young actress, who’s also a beauty queen material, said.

During our interview with Melizza, she made an impressive presentation of her skills and achievements—her being multitalented and an A1 student. But what got the attention of the select members of the press who chatted with her was her voice and the messages her songs try to convey.

Melizza seen onstage with December Avenue, is also a singer and a songwriter

She sang two songs (a cappella) and shared with us the story behind the lyrics. She had to pause at one point because she was getting emotional.

“I always cry whenever I sing this song,” she said referring to the song entitled “Kung Maibabalik,” which she wrote inspired by a friend whom she lost not so long ago.

Melizza has a soothing voice that reminds listeners of Nora Jones, or of Dolores O’Riordan of the Irish band Cranberries, according to one senior columnist present during the intimate meeting.

“But I love listening to Moira and Billie English,” she ended.
