Sarangani revives tribal wrestling

“‹Indigenous peoples wrestle against each other in the championship round of Sbuno, the traditional tribal wrestling game in southern Mindanao, as during part of the 16th Munato Festival and 26th provincial founding day of Sarangani.

The revival of the indigenous game is part of the provincial government’s Sulong Sarangani IP program aimed at reviving ancient sports and games, and bringing it back to the mainstream. Founded in 1992,  the province is home to Blaan, Tagakaolo, Tboli lumad tribes, and the Maguindanaon, Maranao and Taosug Moro groups which are noted for their rich cultural heritage and diversity.
