ERC to resolve 640 power supply deals

The Energy Regulatory Commission  expects to resolve over 640 pending power supply agreements by next year, a top official said Tuesday.

ERC chairperson Agnes Devanadera said the commission was supposed to start addressing the backlog in January but it was still concentrating on “those motions which are required to resolve pending PSAs.”

Devanadera said the agency needed to wait for the Supreme Court to make a decision on Manila Electric Co.’s PSAs prior to the implementation of the competitive selection process.

“The commission is a collegial body so the consensus, right now, the sense of the commission is to wait because the case in the SC has been included in the calendar several times already.  It’s moving so we are hoping SC will dispose of that,” Devanadera said.

Meralco signed power supply agreements with seven generators in April 2016 to secure 3,551 megawatts of capacity needed in its franchise area.
