The Cawag Tribal Association urged the Energy Regulatory Commission to act on the power supply agreement of Redondo Peninsula Energy Inc. that has been pending with the commission since April 2016.

The Cawag Tribal Association is an association of over 100 members of Aetas from Zambales who are currently residing in Barangay Cawag, Subic.

Tribal chieftain Juanito Balosbalos, in a letter addressed to the ERC commissioners, expressed the group’s support to the planned 600-megawatt power plant of RP Energy in Cawag, Subic.

The letter dated Aug. 2 acknowledged the pending approval of the PSA that RP Energy had been waiting for to proceed with the construction of the power plant.

“This is the reason why we are calling for the urgent approval of the said PSA,” Balosbalos said in Filipino.

He said he even represented the Cawag Tribal Association in the hearing for the PSA in November last year.

Balosbalos said RP Energy had long been providing services and initiating projects to improve the lives of the tribal group.

“We believe that the success of RP Energy will also be the success of the residents in our area. In fact, even with the plant yet to be constructed, RP Energy already has a lot of programs that benefit our barangay,” he said.

Balosbalos said that as an important stakeholder in the project, he believed that the ERC would consider the request and support coming from the Cawag Tribal Association.
