The government is set to hold a high-level meeting with Japanese officials this week to discuss the progress of the Duterte’s administration’s big-ticket infrastructure projects with funding support from Tokyo.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III and Economic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia will chair the Philippine delegation, while Dr. Hiroto Izumi is expected to lead the Japanese side in the meeting on Dec. 6.

The meeting in Hakone of the Philippines-Japan Joint Committee on Infrastructure Development and Economic Cooperation will be the ninth dialog between the two countries. The first meeting was convened in March 2017 at Kantei, the Prime Minister’s Office in Tokyo, Japan and the most recent or eighth one was held at Marriot Hotel in Clark, Pampanga.

Dominguez said the regular meetings were part of the “fast and sure” approach adopted by the two countries to ensure the smooth and swift implementation of the Japan-funded projects under President Duterte’s signature “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure modernization program.
