Puregold launches barcode payment

Puregold Price Club Inc., the country’s second-largest retailer owned by billionaire Lucio Co, and GCash on Thursday launched a barcode scanning payment system to help boost the supermarket chain’s sales this year.

Called GCash Scan to Pay via Barcode, the new bar code scanning payment scheme is integrated into Puregold’s point of sales to streamline payment system and facilitate faster transactions.

“This is the first time such barcode scanning payment system will be used in the Philippines and we are proud to be GCash partner merchant for this,” said Puregold president Ferdinand Vincent Co.

Puregold vice president for operation Antonio delos Santos said the new payment scheme was expected to attract more shoppers and hopefully meet its high-end sales target of 10 percent this year.

Puregold expects sales to grow between 8 percent and 10 percent  this year.  “So far, we are on track,” Delos Santos said.
