Popeyes set to invest P1.5b to put up 15 stores in Luzon

American diner Popeyes is investing P1.5 billion to put up at least 15 stores in Luzon this year in an aggressive effort to capture a decent market share in the quick served restaurant dining category.

Winglip Chang, president of Kuya J Group which holds the Philippine franchise of Popeyes, said the American fastfood brand became an instant craze in the country and broke records in terms of opening sales by a Popeye store globally.

“We have faith in this brand. Up to now, our first branch in Arcovia, Pasig City is taking in more than a thousand transactions each day since it opened six weeks ago,” Chang said during the partnership signing with Coca-Cola Philippines.

Both companies signed Thursday a memorandum of understanding where Coca-Cola will be the official beverage provider of all Popeyes restaurants in the country.

Kuya J, the holdings company, plans to put up at least 15 stores in 2019 from Marikina City to Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

The second branch is set to open in two weeks at Alabang Town Center.  Within the next three years, the brand targets to have as many as 100 stores all over the country.

The partnership between Popeyes and Coca Cola started in 1972 when the first Popeyes store opened in Louisiana.

“Coca-Cola is a valued partner in creating the perfect Popeyes experience. We are happy that they are part of our journey as we build the brand here,” Chang said.

Leading beverage company Coca-Cola Philippines said it continued to find ways to create more value to clients such as Popeyes.

“As a bottler of Coca-Cola Philippines, it has always been our goal to deliver our beverages and bring refreshing moments to each and every Filipino. That is why we are very much excited to partner with Popeyes,” said Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines Inc. national key accounts director Cherry Flores-Du.

Kuya J Group is the holdings firm of six brands including Kuya J Restaurant, Majestic, Popeyes, Grandcon, Tsay Cheng Chinese Cuisine and Seafood City.

Chang said the firm was looking at more brands to introduce in the Philippines.
