Phividec chief seeks Luzon expansion sites

State-owned economic zone Phividec Industrial Administration is scouting for expansion sites in Luzon to maximize the services it provides to locators.

“We are running out of land to lease to locators. There is standing provision that allows us to move anywhere in the country if there is a need for expansion. That is stated in the law that created us,” said Phividec administrator and chief executive Franklin Quijano.

He said Phividec was interested in at least 1,000 hectares of land that it could transform into an economic zone.

A Chinese company with a stake in an integrated steel project has occupied a big portion of the Phividec estate in Misamis Oriental province, fencing about 400 hectares for its future steel facility.

“Frankly, we are running out of spaces. My frontage is now only 9.3 hectares,” said Quijano.

He added many companies were considering Phividec either as a location for their operations or an expansion site.
